DEEJAY PLUS*DESIGN TABLE

We always questioned why professional DJs and DJanes are more often than not hidden behind plain consoles – and we made it our mission to change that.

We like to say: „You celebrate with your eyes!“ 
Researching for visually pleasing DJ consoles, we found some great designs and were thus faced with the next challenge: these eye-catching consoles are often times heavy and require a lot of effort to transport.

So back to the beginning: How would a DJ console have to be designed to be visually pleasing whilst being feasible in logistics? What design allows the DJ to be seen in whole or that allows to make use of video LED walls?

We started to sketch our ideas: a “board”, that has enough space for the different DJ equipment and “invisible” yet solid legs, that make the console appear as ‘floating’. Furthermore it should be easy to set up and ideally fit into a softbag no bigger than the size of a surfboard.

Together with a befriended carpenter we created a first model from paper: proportions, feasability and the feeling of standing behind the console could thus be experimented with.  We were ready to put the final touches to our design.

Finally we started to build the prototype: finding the right materials, stability, weight and optic. The console’s legs were produced by a manufacturer for custom-made plexiglas objects. In the first drafts we had thought about rectangles. These, however, would have had to be transported individually. Developing this idea further, we decided to build two legs in the shape of square brackets, that fit together when being transported. That saves space and also improves stability during transportation.

The matching bags were also custom-made. Finally, we were able to collect first experiences with our brand new DEEJAY PLUS*DESIGN TABLE live on stage. The first grand appearance of our console was during the BEST OF EVENTS night in Dortmund, where the who is who of the event industry meets annually.
